About 0800 and Memorable 0800 Numbers

Prior to the end of 1980s, you called operator who would then put your call through to the organisation this practice became unsustainable and all companies using freephone lines were That changed in the 1980s when direct dial freephone numbers came into place. 0800 numbers were originally introduced by BT and where 10 digits long

When the freephone number was first introduced, BT used 0800.  0808 were introduced in 1997  other phone companies such as Cable and wireless used 0500 which were discontinued in 2017 , Vodafone used 0321 phone and were discontinued in 2021 , both due to due to poor market awareness and  cost

Since 1 July 2015 as 0800 and 0808 numbers became free to call from mobiles and landlines due to changes in Ofcom legislation
